THE LITTLE SPIDER

No this isn’t about Little Miss Muffet, but it is an amazing story! The other night at about 8:00 I put Jenna in the bath tub. As she always does, she asked for her rubber duckies. I reached over to the window ledge where they sat and noticed the most peculiar thing. There was a little bug on the ledge struggling to walk as if it had been affected by poison. As I observed, I noticed something moving around it. So I moved in for a closer look and saw the smallest spider I have ever seen going around this bug, as if it was running 90 miles per hour. Now the size comparison of the bug to the spider reminded me of the tiny chicken hawk trying to capture Foghorn Leghorn in that classic cartoon. The contrast of size was great but that didn’t stop this little spider.

I was so amazed by what I saw, I yelled for the rest of the family to come and watch what was taking place. Talk about cheap entertainment! For about 10 minutes we just watched enamored by the determination of this little spider. After a while the big bug eventually surrendered and that tiny little spider that seemed to “byte off more that it can chew” captured its prey. The odds that, I thought, were stacked against it; small in size, seemingly weak web, a big strong bug, and a critic (that was me) that thought it was too big a task to accomplish, were no match for the sheer determination of the little spider!

Amazingly God’s creation always has a voice and a lesson to give.

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky proclaims the work of His hands. Day after day they pour out speech; night after night they communicate knowledge. There is no speech; there are no words; their voice is not heard,” Psalm 19:1-3.

This little spider taught me several things:

  • Whatever ever task is placed before you go after it 100% (Ecclesiastes 9:10)
  • Even when it looks like odds are against you, conquer them! (1 Samuel 14:6-15)
  • Believe in the tools God has given you and use them (Matthew 25:14-30)
  • Even if the critics say you can’t, God says you can (Romans 8:37)
  • More than anything, persistence and determination always reaches its outcome (Philippians 4:13-14).

Thank God for little spiders!
